The Graduate Record Examinations are taken by individuals applying to graduate schools. These computer-based tests are conducted by the ETS (Educational Test Service), USA. The General Test measures skills that have been developed over a long period of time and are not necessarily related to any particular field of study. The test is composed of analytical writing (AW), verbal (V), and quantitative (Q) sections.

AW: 75 minutes section–2 writing tasks:
Present Your Perspective on an Issue–45 minutes
Analyze an Argument–30 minutes
V:     30 –minute section–30 questions
Q:     45 minute section–28 questions

(0-800) V + (0-800) Q = (0-1600) for the entire test.
Writing tasks are rated 0-6 each. Their combined rated scores are averaged.
